DALMATIA AND ITS HIDDEN TREASURES

Magical beaches, hidden bays and promenades - one of the most beautiful cities on the Adriatic is without a doubt the small, tranquil city of Zadar. For centuries it was the political, intellectual and cultural center of Dalmatia.

Although it has been destroyed, looted and occupied many times, buildings from ancient times, the Renaissance and the Middle Ages are still there. Recently, the sea organ built by the architect Nikola Bašić has also become a new attraction in the city.

PROGRAM SUGGESTION:

DAY 1: Arrival. Welcome drink with our tour guide

DAY 2: City tour of Zadar
Today you will learn why Zadar is also known as little Rome: with beautiful Romanesque churches, with rich archives and a full library. It is a veritable treasure trove of archaeological treasures and sights from ancient and medieval times as well as a number of contemporary works such as the world's first sea organ - an instrument that is driven by the waves of the sea and thus creates "nature music". Afternoon at leisure in the hotel.

DAY 3: City of Šibenik and Krka Waterfalls National Park
Today we drive to Šibenik, the oldest Croatian town on the Croatian coast, rich in cultural sights and monuments. The silhouette of the city can be recognized by the Gothic and Renaissance St. Jacob's Cathedral, a masterpiece of Croatian and European architecture, which, together with the old city center, is on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The islands around Šibenik attract with their picturesque bays, the clear blue sea and the scent of the Mediterranean plants. After the city tour and free time, the drive to the Krka Waterfalls National Park follows. Deep gorges, lakes and waterfalls alternate with each other. A system of paths and climbs, bridges and viewpoints provide impressive images. Along this route, the Krka forms numerous cascades and waterfalls, the most famous of which is the Skradinski buk, the highest limestone or Rauhwackebarrier in Europe with a height of 46 meters. This is also the center of the Krka National Park, one of the most valuable ecosystems in Europe due to the wealth and peculiarities of the endemic plant and animal community.

DAY 4: Town of Nin and lunch on the farm
Today you will visit the town of Nin, the first royal seat of the Croatians. Nin was also the seat of the first Croatian bishop, whose jurisdiction extended to the entire area of the early medieval Croatian state. The Church of the Holy Cross from the 9th century is one of the most valuable preserved monuments of early Croatian ecclesiastical buildings with a unique architectural style. The church has been called "the smallest cathedral in the world" and with its beauty and location it dominates the space where it is located. Because of its original shape, it was included in the representative monuments of early medieval architecture.
In the afternoon you will drive to a farm where you can enjoy the local specialties.

DAY 5: Free day or possibility of excursions

Day 6: journey home

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE JOURNEY:

  • The most beautiful cities in North and Central Dalmatia
  • National park waterfalls Krka

EXCURSION POSSIBILITIES - OUR RECOMMENDATIONS:

Zrmanja River Nature Park: a unique experience, the life in the hinterland back then, where the Winnetou films were filmed. Visit our Dalmatian family, spend a day in the autochthonous Dalmatian village, enjoy folklore and lunch right by the Zrmanja river.
A lot of fun, entertainment and music but also a lot of interesting facts await you on this special excursion.

Kornati Islands National Park by boat including lunch and entrance fees: "On the last day of creation, God wanted to crown his work, and so he created the Kornati islands out of tears, stars and breath" is the name of the Kornati islands, a labyrinth of 147 islands strung together like a pearl necklace. Learn about the origins of this island wonderland and its history.

Pearl of Dalmatia Split and Trogir: The Roman Emperor Diocletian decided to build his summer residence in Split in 305. He had a residence built that was unique for the building industry at the time, with strong walls, numerous defense towers, temples, palaces and thermal baths. Today this palace represents the largest complex of ancient monuments in Croatia and is a popular sightseeing object. Not far from the economic and cultural center of Split lies the harmonious, stone city of Trogir, whose city center, like Split, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is just as rich in culture and history.
