PAG - ISLAND OF STONE AND SALT

Experience the unique hospitality and culinary delights!
Everywhere on the island of Pag you can see light natural stone walls, which mostly run straight across the island and which border the thousands of sheep on Pag in their pastures and offer them protection from the cold wind of the bora and the heat of the summer sun. A land attraction that is unique to the entire coast of Croatia are the more than a thousand year old olive trees that grow in the north of the island of Pag.
You will learn this and much more on the island: about Pag lace, about salt, about Pag cheese ...

DAY 2: Town of Pag - Pag lace - "Gligora" cheese dairy
The jewels of the old town of Pag are the lively main square "Trg kralja Petra Kresimira IV" and the three-aisled basilica with its magnificent facade. Pag cheese is a wonderful souvenir for those with a sweet tooth. This cheese is made from the milk of a small breed of wild sheep that live on the island.
Another special feature is that first-class salt has been produced on the island of Pag for centuries.
If you want to learn more about the tradition of salt production on Pag, we recommend a visit to the Salt Museum in Pag. Its exhibitions show the history and tools that were used for salt extraction and transportation.

Pag lace gallery:
The tradition of making needlepoints has been cultivated in the town of Pag for centuries. This is a special technique, the valued product of which is the tip of Pag. In 2009 the Pag lace was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List. The lace accompanies the people on Pag through their entire lives and symbolizes - like a single thread - both the beauty and the hardness of life on this island made of stone and salt.
Afternoon at leisure in the hotel.

DAY 3: Pag delights - Boškinac wine cellar, famous Lun olive groves, Novalja
Shortly before the small town of Lun in the north of the island, a green sign shows the way to the "Lunjski maslinici", the olive groves of Lun. A few years ago a path was laid out here so that visitors can walk among these wonderful ancient trees. We have organized an original olive oil tasting in the middle of the groves for you. The former fishing village of Novalja has developed into one of the most famous vacation spots on the island of Pag in recent years.
Pršut is a local smoked meat specialty and is served thinly as a starter, usually with sheep's cheese and olives, and eaten with your fingers out of respect. Excellent wines from the island of Pag bring this day to a cozy end.

DAY 4: day off or excursion possibility

DAY 5: Journey home

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE JOURNEY:

  • Thousand year old olive groves
  • Specialties and delicacies from the island

EXCURSION POSSIBILITIES - OUR RECOMMENDATIONS:

Boat trip to the island of Rab: Rab is the fourth in the alliance of the Kvarner islands. The 94 km² island with its over 2000 year old capital attracts visitors. The four distinctive church towers are the landmark of the old town, which is one of the most beautiful on the entire Adriatic coast. Lunch organized on the ship with a beautiful backdrop.

Metropolis of Northern Dalmatia - Zadar: a monument of different historical times and cultures. The city of Zadar is located in the heart of the Adriatic Sea and is considered the urban center of northern Dalmatia. Of many tourist attractions, we particularly highlight the following:
The Sea Organ - It looks like a special coastal formation with a few rows of stairs that lead down into the sea.
The city - market square from Roman times, Church of St. Donatus - the symbol of the city of Zadar and the most famous monumental building in Croatia from the early Middle Ages (9th century).
