PROGRAM SUGGESTION:

DAY 1: Arrival in Belgrade
Arrival to Belgrade, capital of Serbia, reception by the tour guide, dinner and overnight in the hotel

DAY 2: Belgrade
The capital of Serbia lies at the confluence of the Sava and Danube, between the Panonia plain and the mountainous south. During a city tour you will learn about the turbulent history of the Serbian capital and enjoy the Balkan flair of the old town. After a tour of the city, a panoramic trip on the Sava River awaits us. Dinner in a typical restaurant in the old town with grill specialties.

DAY 3: Belgrade - Oplenac - Zlatibor
Check out of the hotel in Belgrade and drive to Oplenac where the mausoleum of the Serbian royal dynasty is located. Prince Alexander Karađorđević founded the first vineyards here and King Peter I Karađorđević donated the Church of St. George with a historical memorial complex, which developed into the foundation of the Karađorđević on the Oplenac. Next to the royal vineyards is the imposing mausoleum of the dynasty with more than 3500 m2 of mosaics made in Italy, which consist of 40 million glass stones in 15,000 color nuances. After the tour we continue to Mećavnik where we visit the open-air museum-like coastal village. The traditional houses are mainly made of wood, hence the name Drvengrad (wooden town). This village was developed as a filming location for Kusturica's film “Life is a Miracle”. The village not only sees itself as a visitor attraction, but also aims to be an active place for artistic and cultural discussions. Dinner and overnight at the hotel in Zlatibor.

DAY 4: Zlatibor - Šargan Museum Train - Sarajevo
Check out from the hotel. Today we're going on a museum train. The Šarganska Osmica is a narrow-gauge mountain railway in Bosnian gauge located in western Serbia. The narrow-gauge railway line, the length of which is about 13.5 km, connects three beautiful Serbian mountains - Tara, Zlatibor and Šargan and includes 22 tunnels and 10 bridges and viaducts.
After an eventful ride on this unique train, we continue by bus through the mountainous region of Bosnia to Sarajevo.

DAY 5: Sarajevo
During a city tour we get to know the state capital Sarajevo. Due to the different faiths lived in Sarajevo, the city is also known as the "Jerusalem of Europe". Orthodox and Catholic churches, mosques and synagogues are only a few steps away from each other and the old town is characterized by an oriental flair. The Ottomans ruled here for over 400 years before the country became part of Austria-Hungary and later Yugoslavia. Islamic-imperial-Slavic mixture of cultural influences can be found everywhere, also in gastronomy. We taste the traditional Bosnian dishes in a local restaurant.

DAY 6: Sarajevo - Jajce - Banja Luka
Check out of the hotel in Sarajevo and drive to Jajce. The city was built at the confluence of the Pliva River into the Vrbas, at the point marked by a 22 m high waterfall on the Pliva River. Jajce had a very eventful and significant past, the traces of which can still be seen everywhere. There are 27 monuments from the National Monument List in the city and its vicinity, which makes the city a unique open-air museum. Jajce is the only preserved old town in Bosnia that had all the characteristics of an urban center as early as the 15th century when it was the seat of the Bosnian kingdom. Visit the only city in the world where there is a 20 m high waterfall practically in the center of the village. After a stroll in the old town, we continue to Banja Luka. In the past, Banja Luka was a big industry centrum, but many architectural and historical sights were destroyed in the last war. Only a few places of interest miraculously survived after the fighting. On the bank of the Vrbas there is still an old fortress, the construction of which took place in the 16th century. This magnificent construction still surprises today with its invincibility. The fortress has survived a number of attacks and sieges and witnessed many important historical events. After a tour of the city, we move into the rooms in our hotel.

DAY 7: Journey home

Travel time: April, May, September, October
Overnight stay on arrival and departure: Zagreb / Osijek area in Croatia

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE JOURNEY:

  • Panoramic trip on the Sava River in Belgrade
  • Mausoleum of the royal dynasty in Oplenac

OUR RECOMMENDATIONS:
Dinner with local specialties in Sarajevo Instead of dinner in the hotel, we can organize a traditional dinner in a local restaurant in Sarajevo if you wish
Midday snacks in Jajce After the city tour we can organize a midday snack with the famous “Čevapčići” in a restaurant on Lake Pliva
