COUNTRY AND PEOPLE, CULTURE AND TRADITION

A stay by the sea is always an experience. If you are also in a region that offers an intact cultural and recreational landscape as well as living customs, then your vacation becomes a very special experience. The red-earthy hilly landscape in which one is now has an inkling of history. This is exactly where the Roman world ended and the Slavic world began in ancient times. In addition to the huge amphitheater in Pula, with a capacity of 23,000 visitors - the sixth largest of its kind, the Arch of the Sergians or Hercules Gate, and many other sights of antiquity, the Roman traces can also be seen in the gastronomy.

Suckling pig (porchetta in Italy) is said to be based on a recipe that is thousands of years old. The refined Etruscans are said to have sizzled them over the wood fire when Romulus laid the foundation stone for the city of Rome.

In almost every Croatian life there is an experience with food. Whether at a wedding, birthday party or New Year celebration, a suckling pig is a must and must not be missing!

DAY 2: Excursion to the country and its people with a visit to Poreč
Let our adventure trip through Istria begin! With our tour guide we first drive to Poreč.

Today the most diverse tourist center of Istria - Poreč - developed on a narrow peninsula protected by the attractive island of St. Nikola. The past has left us with many sights in this city: The most famous Euphrasian Basilica or Euphrasiana, under UNESCO protection, from the 6th century is located directly in the pedestrian zone (entrance fees not included). From the main square we walk along the Decumanus (central street through the old town of Poreč), let yourself be enchanted by the flair of the city during the city tour.

Admire the "Pentagonal Tower", the "Gothic House", the "House of the Two Saints", the "Zuccato Palace", the "Romanesque House", Marafor - the Roman Forum. After the city tour there is free time: enjoy a coffee in the old town or in a café with a view of the island of Sveti Nikola.

The hinterland of Istria is an insider tip for tourists. In an autochthonous Istrian village you will be received by local families, a welcome drink and music. At the end of the day, enjoy lunch with suckling pig, drinks, live music, entertainment and dancing. We have also prepared a surprise for every guest!

This trip can be done in autumn as an olive harvest

DAY 3: Excursion around Istria with Pula and Rovinj
Today we continue our adventure tour through the country of Istria and visit the city of Pula first.
The Colosseum was commissioned by Emperor Vespasian around AD 72. The imposing arena in Pula is a bit older. Today it is one of the six largest theaters of its kind. The old Roman city is still famous for the Temple of Augustus, the Forum and the Hercules Gate, the oldest Roman sight. After the city tour, we recommend a stroll through the small alleys of the pretty old town or a visit to the green market. Experience this particularly lively city and try to hear the cry of the lions.

Did you know? The word "tie" is derived from "Croatian". On October 18, 2003. the members of the Academia Cravatica association presented the largest tie in the world: the one around Pula's amphitheater.

The afternoon tour is reserved for Rovinj through the cozy streets back in time. From the sea side, the city is protected by high cliffs with houses built on top of them, and from the land side, the city is protected by high city walls. All of this is well preserved to this day. And when you enter the city through the city gate of Balbi, you have the feeling that you have entered another dimension of time. These cozy streets lead you up the hill to the church of St. Euphemia (called Fuma in Istrian), the largest and best preserved monument in the city. After the city tour and free time, with many impressions of the Istrian country and its people, we can look back on all the experiences of this beautiful trip with a glass of sparkling wine and enjoy the last evening in our hotel.
